"Potato Island is known for it's annual Fourth of July bonfire. Residents, visitors, etc find there way by boat or wading to place burnable driftwood, construction scraps, old furniture to fuel a momentous pile for a 4th PM bonfire. Back in the 1940's our family participated in this tradition. Both my daughters, Sue and Gail, today recall with enthusiasm the conflagration that prompted an impressive gathering for this flameing enterprize." (Submitted Jan. 23, 2014)
