"Before acquiring Lakes Dorothy, Maloya, and Alice, later given to the City of Raton, and leased by the City to the State of New Mexico for the Sugarite Canyon State Park, the railroad built a pipeline from several springs on the southern edge of Bartlett Mesa to supply water for their coal burning engines. The City of Raton later acquired the water rights to Eagle Nest Lake." (Submitted Sep. 4, 2012)
