"the Don Darlos hills have some very interesting volcanic features for the trained eye. They are hills but wait till you begin to walk them and you will find they can wear you out!. I studied the area in the early 1980's, there are also dinosaur tracks in the exposed creeks. The old sante Fe trail crossed it as well as the Goodnight Loving trail, it is the intersection. An area there I had strong feels of what was talked of a comancero attack on some settlers I actually found the dinosaur tracks at lake Clayton before they were washed to exposure in 82. had casts of the prints made and gave to my university. several years after to find they made it a state park and fixed it up!! My thesis was on "the volcanics of the Don Carlos Hills" Part of my study was a volcanic flow map and the 3 major volcanic euruptions about a million years ago. i enjoyed it."
