"The Sixes mine, started in the mid 1800's, was a very large producer of gold in both lode and placer form. Native Americans also recovered gold in this area long before early settlers arrived here. Most of the creeks in this area are gold bearing and many of them have had mining operations that recovered ounces of the yellow metal. Today this mine is not accessible since a large residential subdivision has been built atop this historic area. The mouth of sixes creek, if approached from Lake Allatoona, contains gold even today that can be recovered easily with a gold pan and shovel." (Submitted Jul. 4, 2009)
